Cashout and live betting are among the most visible tools of the modern betting market. After expanding from foreign exchanges, Cashout also reached betting applications in New Zealand and today you can find it especially at larger licensed offices (Tipsport, Fortuna, Sazka, Chance, SYNOT TIP) - on the web and on mobile, but not at every market and every ticket. Live betting became widespread a little earlier, but only fast data lines from official suppliers made it a mainstream product.

From the front office's side, these are two ways to increase the turnover of the player and assign a higher margin to it. From the player's side, it's a double-edged tool – when used wisely, it helps you manage risk and free up money; when you react in emotion, it gradually destroys the mathematical advantage of the original bet.

What is cashout - types, availability, limits

Cashout is the option to end a running bet before the match is over and take the bookmaker's current offer. New Zealand offices offer three variants – each suitable for a different situation:

Cashout typeHow it worksWhen does it make sense
Full cashout Ends the entire bet for the current offer, the ticket is closed with one amount You want to make a profit or save part of the deposit, end of the dilemma
Partial cashout You take a percentage (usually 25/50/75%) of the current offer, the rest of the bet continues You want to secure part of the profit and at the same time keep a chance to win the full amount
Automatic cashout You set a threshold amount in advance, the system closes the bet automatically as soon as it is reached You don't have time to watch the match or you don't want to trust your emotions when making decisions

For which bets cashout does not work

Cashout is not available on every bet. The office offers it as standard for simple bets and accumulators on the main markets (match winner - 1x2, double chance, handicap, number of goals under/over, both score). The following are usually out of reach of the cashout:

  • Marginal markets - exact result, first or last goalscorer, number of corners in half time, time of first goal, "scorer + exact result" combination.
  • Bets on the last stage of a match - usually the last 2-5 minutes of football, the last play of a tennis set, the last period of hockey.
  • Dead tip accumulator – once one tip in the accumulator loses, the cashout for the entire ticket disappears.
  • Suspended markets – during an ongoing event (penalty, free kick, video referee decision, goal), the office temporarily suspends the entire market and cashout.

Bid calculation: single bet, accumulator, partial cashout

The cashout offer is not the "fair price" of the bet - it is the office's trading offer, which is based on the current live odds and deducts a margin from this theoretical value. In practice, you need to know three formulas: for a simple bet, for an accumulator (AKO) and for a partial cashout.

Formula 1 - Simple bet

Model example: a player bets NZ$ 10on a team to win with an original odds of 3.00 (potential payout NZ$ 40net profit NZ$ 30). The team leads 1-0 in the 65th minute, the live odds for the win have dropped to 1.50. Calculation:

  • Fair value of payout: (3.00 Γ· 1.50) Γ— 250= NZ$ 30
  • With 8% margin: 500 Γ— 0.92= NZ$ 10real offer
  • Loss vs. Fair price: NZ$ 0(8%) - insurance for sure payout

If the player accepts the offer, he will receive NZ$ 10regardless of how the match ends. If he rejects it and the team wins, he gets the full payout of NZ$ 40If he rejects it and the team loses, he gets €.

Formula 2 - Accumulator (AKO)

Model example: 3-match accumulator, deposit NZ$ 10original odds 1.80 x 2.00 x 2.50 (total odds 9.00, potential payout €). The first two picks won, the third (with original odds of 2.50) has a current live odds of 1.40. Calculation:

  • Winning tips materialized: 250 Γ— 1.80 Γ— 2.00= NZ$ 40effective deposit on last tip
  • Fair payout: 900 Γ— (2.50 Γ· 1.40)= €
  • With a 12% margin for the accumulator: 1,607 Γ— 0.88= €
  • If the third guess wins: full payout €
  • If the third tip loses: € and the entire accumulator is dead

Formula 3 - partial cashout

Model example: with a bet of NZ$ 10at the original odds of 3.00 and the current full payout of NZ$ 10the player takes a partial cashout of 50%. Result:

  • Instant payout: 50% Γ— 460= NZ$ 10
  • Remaining deposit running on: NZ$ 0on original odds of 3.00= NZ$ 10potential payout
  • If the team wins: NZ$ 10+ NZ$ 10= NZ$ 30in total (versus NZ$ 40at full playthrough)
  • If the team loses: NZ$ 10+ €= NZ$ 10in total (versus € at full completion)

Margin according to the situation

SituationTypical marginWhy
A simple bet in the green (you guarantee a profit)5-8%The office has already made a margin on the pre-match bet
Single bet in red (save deposit)10-15%A player under psychological pressure - more willingly accepts a worse offer
Accumulator with 2-3 tips10-14%Multiplying odds increases volatility
Accumulator with 4 or more tips15-20%Very high volatility
Payout during the event (goal, eleven)12-25%Great uncertainty about further developments
Marginal market (exact result)15-25% or unavailableA market with little liquidity

βœ… When does cashout make real sense?

Cashout makes sense in three specific situations, the other reasons are mostly emotional:

  1. Securing profit before the expected turnaround. You have a bet of NZ$ 30on team A to win at odds of 2.40 (potential payout €). The team leads 2-1 in the 78th minute, but their captain leaves the match early after a yellow card, the opponent has 4 shots in the last 10 minutes. Current odds to win them is 1.55, cashout offer NZ$ 40(after 7% margin). Cashout ensures a NZ$ 10profit and avoids the build-up settlement scenario.
  2. Freeing up money for another better bet. The bank reserve makes you €, in an open bet you have € committed to a football match and in the meantime an opportunity opens up on a hockey duel with an estimated advantage of 4-6%. Cashout of the original bet will release the money. For the calculation of a reasonable amount of the bet, see online casino budget management .
  3. You can't manage to finish the bet with your nerves. You play mainly for fun (not for a proven long-term advantage) and the stress of the last third of the match takes away your interest from watching. Cashout secures the result and ends stress tracking. Rule of thumb: calculate how much of your original potential win you're willing to sacrifice for stress relief. If it's 5-8%, it's fine. If it's 15-20%, it means you probably bet too much money.

⚠️ When is a cashout trap and what is the long-term impact

Cashout is a trap in three situations - in each case it has the same consequence: in the long run it reduces your mathematically expected profit (or worsens the loss) for each bet.

  • For a bet with verified value. If you placed a bet based on a verified advantage (for example via value betting ) and the exchange rate has changed only slightly, the cashout margin is consistently hitting you with the long-term expected profit.
  • For repeated "loss catch-up" via cashout. The bet is in the red, the player accepts a cashout for 30% of the original deposit and immediately goes to bet the money into a new live bet to "catch up the loss". This is a classic chase that stacks the cashout margin with a sharply higher margin in live mode.
  • For the "just in case" bet right before the end. The team leads in the 88th minute of football 2:0, the odds to win are 1.03, the cashout offer is NZ$ 30with an original deposit of NZ$ 30and the odds are 1.80. The player "just in case" accepts. At this point, ~80% of the profit is given up for insurance against an outcome that will occur 96-98% of the time.

Long-term impact: what makes 8% margin in 100 bets

Tipper profileExpected profit without cashoutExpected profit with cashout (8% margin)Impact for 100 bets of NZ$ 10
Recreational (50uccess rate, 0% benefit)€/bet-€/bet-€
Advanced (52uccess rate, 2% advantage)+€/bet-NZ$ 10 2/bet-NZ$ 40(compared to +NZ$ 30without cashout)
Experienced (53uccess rate, 3% advantage)+NZ$ 10 2/bet-NZ$ 10 2/bet-€ (compared to +NZ$ 40without cashout)

Veteran rule: Don't turn on cashout based on score, but based on new information. New information means: player injury, red card, change of tactics, substitution of goalkeeper, unexpected change of conditions. Without new information, any cashout decision is just a reaction to one's own emotion.

Cashout on bonuses and free bets

For bonus credit bets and free bets, the cashout behaves differently than for a regular own money bet:

Bonus/bet typeCashout available? What to watch out for
Classic deposit bonus (with spins)Yes, by defaultAfter the cashout, the offset amount is counted in the spins, but the potential payout is not
Free bet (deposit non-refundable)Often yes, with a higher marginPayout only covers net profit; margin often 12-18%
Risk free bet/insuranceYes, but it cancels the fuseBy accepting a cashout, you lose your right to a refund if the bet later loses
Welcome bonus after registrationIt depends on the conditionsSome offices turn off cashout at the first bonus bet

Live Betting: Mechanics, Delays, Suspended Markets

Live betting means placing bets during a match where the bookmaker recalculates the odds in real time. Odds move after every significant action – a goal, yellow card, substitution, scoring chance or fouls in the attacking third. The speed of adjustment is in seconds: after a goal, the odds on the next scorer or the exact result change within 2-5 seconds, the main markets within 1-3 seconds.

Where does the office get the data from?

The main suppliers of official live data in the New Zealand market are Sportradar, Genius Sports (originally BetGenius), Stats Perform and IMG Arena. These companies have contracts with leagues and federations and collect data through their own reporters who physically sit in the stadium and report every action immediately. The delay between the real event and what the office has in front of it is usually 0.5-2 seconds.

Source of informationA typical delay compared to what is happening on the fieldWho uses it
Official Stream (Sportradar, Genius Sports)0.5 - 2 secondsBetting office, automated trading systems
Terrestrial digital broadcasting (DVB-T) and cable3 – 6 secondsAn ordinary viewer with a television
Satellite (Skylink, FreeSAT)5-8 secondsSpectators with a satellite dish
IPTV (O2 TV, T-Mobile TV)6 – 10 secondsViewers with a decoder from the operator
Live transmission through the office application10-20 secondsPlayers watching the match directly in the office application
Unofficial internet broadcast20 – 60 secondsPlayers outside paid packages

Live margin on pre-match bets

The margin in live mode is higher for two reasons: the office has less time to accurately set the odds (error compensation) and the players bet on emotion (reduced margin control). Typical values:

MarketMargin before the matchMargin liveDifference
Match winner (1Γ—2)4-6%8-12%+4 – 6 percentage points
Number of goals under/over5-7%9-13%+4 – 6 percentage points

Accurate result8-12%15-25%+7 – 13 percentage points
Scorer of the first goal10-15%18-30%+8 – 15 percentage points

Practical decision-making procedure before cashout

Before you click cashout, review these four questions. If you answer yes to all of them, cashout makes sense:

  1. Has the situation changed on the pitch that has not yet been reflected in the live course (injury, red, tactical change)?
  2. Does finishing the bet cost me more stress than the cashout margin?
  3. Do I need to free up money for a better opportunity with a higher expected value?
  4. With an accumulator: is there a tip left that has a reasonable probability of losing (not close to winning)?

The 8 most common mistakes when betting live

  1. Bet after each goal instead of a pre-planned moment. The goal is the least opportune moment - the odds overreact, the office has a margin 5 percentage points higher than before the event.
  2. An ignored emotion after losing a previous bet. A tilt after a loss almost always leads to a higher bet on the edge market.
  3. A bet on the currently dominant team without looking at the quality of the chances (xG). The pressure in the field does not represent a real danger to the gate.
  4. Excessive faith in a signal like "there will be a goal in the 70th minute". League statistics are not a guarantee for a specific match.
  5. Late reaction to player substitution. Substitution of a key offensive player is reflected in the course within 30 seconds - reaching the office before the onlooker.
  6. Betting according to the TV broadcast with a 5-10 second delay. Live almost always at a disadvantage - you see reality in slow motion.
  7. Gradually increasing bets without a plan (chase). Catch-up behavior= guarantee of quick budget loss.
  8. Betting on marginal live markets with a margin of 15% and more. The first goal, the time of the goal, the number of corners - in live mode, the margin is incompatible with long-term profit.
